Tyla Laura Seethal, known simply as Tyla, is a Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter from Johannesburg, South Africa. She was born on January 30, 2002, and began her musical journey by posting covers and original songs online while still in school. Her breakout came in 2019 with the hit single “Getting Late”, which caught attention across Africa. Tyla rose to international fame in 2023 with her global hit “Water”, blending Amapiano, Afro-pop, and R&B. The song topped charts worldwide and earned her the 2024 Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance. In March 2024, she released her debut album Tyla, showcasing her unique sound and storytelling. Tyla is celebrated for her powerful voice, style, and cultural pride, making her one of Africa’s brightest stars.
